iApp Technology releases OpenThai 2.0 Legal — an open-weight Thai legal AI built by Thais, for Thailand

Bangkok, 26 August 2026 — iApp Technology today released OpenThai 2.0 Legal, an open-weight large language model purpose-built for Thai law, and made its full weights freely available on Hugging Face. Built by Thais for Thailand, the model is designed for lawyers, in-house counsel, compliance teams, legal-tech builders and public agencies that need reliable, source-grounded answers on Thai statutes and case law.
OpenThai 2.0 Legal does something most general chatbots cannot: asked a question with no statute placed in the prompt, it recalls and cites the correct law and section from memory. Independent, code-scored benchmarks make it the strongest closed-book Thai-law recaller among models you can run yourself — roughly four times the recall of the much larger Qwen 35B on the Civil and Commercial Code — and it wins all four axes of the Thai bar-exam essay evaluation against the same competitor, from correct citations to legal reasoning. Every answer can be returned as structured JSON that names the exact law and section, so it plugs directly into retrieval (RAG) and drafting pipelines.
Crucially, the model is self-hostable. It is a 30-billion-parameter Mixture-of-Experts model that activates only ~3B parameters per token and runs on a single GPU from 24 GB of VRAM — so law firms and agencies can keep sensitive matters entirely on their own infrastructure. It is built on open NVIDIA Nemotron models and trained end-to-end with the NVIDIA NeMo open libraries, in collaboration with the Artificial Intelligence Entrepreneur Association of Thailand (AIEAT) and the members of the ThaiLLM initiative.

The model is available now, and can be tried immediately with no setup required on the model page, which also hosts the full technical documentation, benchmark results, and a free hosted API (free with a registered iApp API key until 30 September 2026). The open weights can be downloaded from Hugging Face.
As with any AI, its outputs are decision support rather than legal advice, and a qualified professional should verify each citation against the current law. For maximum accuracy, the model should be paired with a retrieval (RAG) system — a step-by-step guide is available.
